Hey Jamaica!

Over 300 people competed in the Sasquatch Preservation Trail Run on the morning of Saturday Sept. 15, 2012. This meet was an off-road cross-country and trail run on private property permanently preserved by the Farm & Natural Lands Trust of York County. This race had a mix of terrain and elevation. Daniel ran through the woods, along the Codorus Creek as well as climbing a 1.5 mile hill. To get to the finish line, Daniel had to run up a 10 degree grade hill after coming out of a corn field.

This was a very hard course to run and before the race, people who did not know 7 year old Daniel questioned me about letting him run it alone. Daniel's time 27 Minutes, 59 Seconds. He ran with the 17 year old and under class. After the race, people's attitude changed concerning Daniel's ability to complete the course as well as his ability to compete with children far older than himself. He was the youngest person competing. An 8 year old and a ten year old finished before him. In his age group about 6 people far older than him finished after him. Most of the adults finished after the Flash.

I started to hear the same comments that I heard in just about every venue that we competed in. "Hey Jamaica, you did great!" "Nice going Jamaica!"

(Referring to link above.) This is one of the runners who could not keep up with Daniel as he ran like a Cherokee up the hill. As you can see, Daniel's race was well over. However, you can see people still crossing the finish line while Daniel was at the food table helping himself.

This man ran with Daniel off and on from the time Daniel was four years old at Central Dauphin High School's track. He questioned Daniel's ability to run this course. In the end, Daniel ran across the finish line far ahead of him.

Here is the Jamaican Flash as he crossed the finish line.

  2. Cicily;

    Because of the track suit that you financed, people around the country call him "Jamaica" because that is what is on his uniform. This was a great idea of selling him to the public.
