To the Unknown Accountant

I am about to turn 60 years old and I have been thinking about all the employers that I had over the past 40 years. I wrote this blog because it is important that you understand the work society that you are getting into before you start studying for that profession. If you can work first to find a profession that you might like that is a lot better than going to college and preparing for a profession that you know nothing about and may learn to hate.

For example, I have 12 to 15 college credits in accounting and when I finished these courses, I never wanted to talk to an accountant again. So I continued in the IT area. Wouldn’t you know it! I was working with accounts.

One company that I worked for told me that I would be trained for 6 months before I had to touch an accounting computer program. Well that promise lasted about 15 minutes, long enough for me to get into my cube on the first day of work. I came to work at 8:00 AM. Nothing would run the first day and I finally went home at 11:00 PM. The month was like that. My second month on the job, I came in 15 minutes late one day. One of the executives saw me come in and complained to my manager about my tardiness. I was called in and told that from now on, be here on time.

I lasted about 1.5 years on this job before I told them to take this job and shove it!

I am sure most of you in my audience had the same problem at one time or another. Some CPA in the world had this same problem and put the links below on the internet. Before you view them, please go to the bathroom. These links will make you laugh so hard that you might pass out.
