A Daughter of Pennsylvania

Geraldine Lucile Pentz Derr left her family and went to be with the lord on January 1, 2011 at 11:15 AM. She is a direct descendent of the Pennsylvania War Hero of the Revolutionary War, Peter Pentz. Peter Pentz was a land owner in the Northern Pennsylvania Indian Territory (now Montgomery County). His grave is a National Land Mark. After the Revolutionary War, Peter came home to find that his wife and family except for one son were killed by Native Americans who fight for the British against the colonist.

In the past 265 years, the Pentz family members have served in the US Military. Geraldine was married for 24 years to her late ex-husband Albert E. Derr Sr. of Milton, Pa. He served in WW II along with his brother. Mrs. Derr’s descendents and their spouses are the latest people in the Pentz family to serve for our country. Several of these Pentz-Derr heroes’ names are on bricks on the Veterans Memorial Walkway in Milton, Pa.

Geraldine was born on May 11, 1928. She grew up in a home (picture above) on Brouse Rd. Clinton Township, Lycoming County.

Geraldine’s mother Lydia (Morehart) Pentz and father Emery Dawalt Pentz had 7 children. Geraldine was the only female child. Two of her brother’s are still living. Geraldine and late ex-husband Albert Derr had 9 children, 6 females and 3 males. She is survived by 32 Grandchildren and 42 Great Grandchildren. Geraldine was trying to stay alive to meet her 2 Great Great Grandchildren. One is due by the end of January 2011.

The descendents of the Pentz-Derr families live primarily in Danville, Watsontown, Montgomery, Washingtonville, Milton, Muncy, and Selinsgrove areas. Most never ventured far from where Peter Pentz farmed and lived his life.

Services will be held on Wednesday 11 AM to Noon at Christ Wesleyan Church in Milton, Pa. Visitation will be at the same church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Rev. James Pentz will preside over the service. Burial will be at Twin Hills.
