2014 USATF Northeast Zone Youth Indoor Track and Field Championships

Hey Nixon's Back!!!

At age 4, Tom's River, NJ is the place where Daniel got his start and won his first chance to compete in National Competition (8 and Under Division). The problem at that time was that Rule 100C did not allow 4 year old children to compete on a National Level.

Sunday, February 23, 2014, Daniel Tulloch also known as the Jamaican Flash ran the 800 Meter and 1500 Meter Run, in the 9 and 10 year old division. This is the first USATF Meet where he runs in this division. The top 6 finishers move on to the National Indoor Championships in Landover, MD, March 8 and 9, 2014.

No, the Flash will not be going to National competition this year for indoor track. In the 1500 Meter Daniel came in with a time of 6 Minutes 18.14 Seconds.  He was 21st out of 26 athletes competing.  First place took the race in 5 Minutes 11.77 Seconds. Six place took it in 5 Minutes 35.19 Seconds.

In the 800 Meter, Daniel came in 31st out of about 40 people with a time of 3 Minutes 19.60 Seconds. The winner's time was 2 Minutes, 39.77 Seconds. The 6th place winner had a time of 2 Minutes 46.51 Seconds.

  Our Problems

Daniel's problems with his illness has affected him more than what we realized. His coach, Andrew Lofton, the head of the St. Luke Spirit Track Club, has in so many words made the same statement to Damine Tulloch, Daniel's father.
  • Daniel may not have fully recovered from his Appendicitis operation last November. He could not practice until early January. This 6 week layoff put him out of condition. Because of this, his development fell behind others of his same age.

  • Because of the cold and snowing weather this winter, Daniel could not practice outside. In the eastern part of the state, New Jersey and New York, children have an indoor track or large gym where they can practice.

  • Daniel is in a new division, running against 10 year olds who are far more advanced than Daniel. As of this meet, Daniel is still 8 years old.

The Solution

This illness has interrupted Daniel’s development. He has sharpened his skills continuously from age 3 until November 2013. We will have to continue to train hard and sharpen his skills again so that he can compete in this division.

We hope to have him ready to compete in the 3000 Meter and Hurdle races once he is placed in the 11 and 12 year old Division.
