The Shelter Shuffle 5K Run/Walk took place on Saturday, October 5th on the campus of the former Harrisburg State Hospital (across from the Farm Show) at 9:00 a.m.

Daniel asked me if Valerie Pritchett from TV 27 News was going to be at the 5K. I told him that I did not know. Later, Valerie showed up while Daniel was playing. I told Valerie that Daniel had been asking about her. But since he was only 20 feet away from us, I figured that he did not recognize her without her face being on TV. So I called him over to her and asked him, if he is still looking for Valerie Pritchett. He said yes when she was right in front of him.
The course started on top of the Hill near Susquehanna Township. The course went up a small hill to the top of the State Hospital Complex. Then the course ran down toward Cameron Street in Harrisburg.

The hard part of this course came when running up the hill that was a little more than a mile and over the top of the complex again and down into the Hill Crest parking lot on the other side of the crest of the hill.

Daniel, the flash, in his new 5K uniform came in second in the 17 and under group. Time: 25 Minutes and 15 Seconds.
What of David?
David was at his first track meet at the same time Daniel was running in this 5K. But David's meet was 5 miles away.

This is 3 year old David getting ready to start his half mile race called Run Your Can Off 5K & Fun Run. He is undefeated in track with this, his only win.

Here is David running to the finish line.

Here he is, number 74, at the finish line.

This is the best part of the race, playing in the leaves.
Then playing the many games with the children.
Don't get excited about David winning his first race. I don't think that lightning will strike twice in the same family. He just does not seem to have the attitude that it takes to run. But he is only 3 years old with a full life ahead of him. We will see what the future brings!
