The Flash is Back in Newberry, York County Pa.

The Newberry Township Police Department sponsored the Dare to Care 5K Run on Aug. 31, 2013. Daniel ran this race last year with a time of  25 Minutes 26.74 seconds. This year his time was 25 Minutes 21 seconds. However, this year Daniel, the Jamaican Flash took first place and won a free trip to Ski Round Top. In both years he ran in the "14 Year Old and Under" group.

This is the beginning of the 5K race with dog Molly, Stephanie, and David watching from the sidewalk. Daniel must run down the hill and turn left into town. At that point he runs across town turns around then runs back.

The water truck came passing out water. You can see people going over and getting water. Daniel did not! He knew not to break his form and carry a heavy water bottle with him to the finish line.

Below is Daniel as he ran the last 100 Feet of the 3.1 Mile race passing an older runner on the last turn.

Damine, Daniel's father was waiting for him at the finish line. After the race, Damine asked me why Daniel was the only black running in this race. I explained to Damine that not many Blacks run 5K races in this part of South Central Pennsylvania. Newberry is not the place were you would find Black people. I would like to see more Black men and women run in these races. This is why I promote the Hershey Track Club.

On Sept 21, 2013, Daniel will run the Members 1st 5K run for Kids at the Members 1st FCU, Administrative Headquarters, 5000 Louise Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA.

Daniel and I appreciate all the people who come out and watch Daniel practice at the many school tracks and fields in the Harrisburg suburbs such as Swatara, CD, and Susquehanna. Daniel will continue to train and he will try his best to promote a good sports image for the area.
