The Flash is Pittsburgh Bound

These pictures were taken by Daniel's Trainer, Kathy Sue Derr. I am showing David, Daniel's 10 month old brother what is going on at the track meet. I know, you think that I am nuts because there is no way that a 10 month old is going to know and understand what is going on at a track meet. You are somewhat right. However, children from before they are born to 7 years old learn and pick up knowledge like a sponge. If you show and tell children something over and over again, they will soon learn what you are talking about.

Daniel and David's mother is also in the picture. I did all that I could do to give my children an advantage over other children. At an early age, they were taught to think for themselves with in social limits. That is because they would need that advantage in a world economy. Coach Stephanie Tulloch, MBA started learning before she was born. I would talk to my ex-wife’s stomach, saying words over and over again. I counted from 1 to 10 everyday, several times a day. This is why Stephanie started saying words at 2 months old. She was able to count at 2 years old. By the time she started Kindergarten; she could read and do simple arithmetic. Here is the reason why she is under 30 years old but she is a Resource Manager reporting to a Corporate CEO.

I am telling you this because this is the training that Daniel and David is getting in education as well as sports.

West Chester Meet 1500 Meter Run June 25, 2011

Daniel ran a good race. He ran against two seven year olds. Daniel received second place with a time of 7 Minutes 12.66 Seconds. That was a personal best time. Many people were astonished that Daniel crossed the finish line and went straight to the Bull Pen for the 400 Meter. Most children only run one race then compete in two field events or less. Not Daniel. He competes in three track events.

West Chester Meet June 25, 2011 400 Meters

After Daniel ran the 1500 Meters he got back on the track and ran the 400 Meter race 10 minutes later. He received 6 place with a time of 1 minute 44.66 seconds. This is his fastest time to date. Another personal best.

Getting his Silver Metal in the 1500 Meter

Daniel will have to learn to look for his finishing times and event positions. He will have to learn how to pick up his own metals and ribbons. This is the start of that education.

Mental Mistakes at the starting line

By the time Daniel started the 800 Meter Run at the West Chester Association Championship meet, he was starting to get mentally tired. He got up at 4:00 AM to prepare for this meet and it was now 1:28 PM. The timing devise on the field was not working well and they held up the running of the 200 Meter for an hour. They kept the Sub-Bantam children (7 years old and under) for the 800 Meter Run on the field in the hot sun until the start of the 800 Meter Run event.

They gave them water and allowed them to drink as much as they wanted. This made their stomachs bloated with water to the point where when they did run, they started cramping.

These are experiences that young athletes must experience before track meets that really matter when they are older. You don't want this to happen in a WPIAL, WPIAA, NCAA, AAU, or USATF Adult Teem Trails Meet in their late teens or early adulthood.

When they check in at the Bull Pen, they are on their own. No coaches or parents can help them. When they step out on that track or in a field event, they better know what to do because if they do not, chances are they will get disqualified. Every event on the track and in the field has their own rules. They better know the rules before they participate. We go over the rules with Daniel as part of his practices every week.

I should have had him take a nap after the 200 Meter Run but I was having my own problems with the heat. No one else thought of it either. Again, this was a learning experience for all of us.

West Chester Meet 800 Meter Run June 25, 2011

Six year old Daniel had to assess the situation by himself. He did not feel like running. Daniel knew that all he had to do was finish the race and he would advance to the Region 2 meet. So he did just that. He came in 3rd. The first place finisher did run a good race but fell out at the end of the race. He had to be carried off the field.

The End of the Day!

He qualified for the Cal U, Pa. USATF Region 2 Championships in all three races. Daniel placing 3rd in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 4 Minutes 46 seconds, second place in the 1500 Meter Run with a time of 7 Minutes 12.66 Seconds, and 6 place in the 400 Meter Run with a time of 1 minute 44.66 seconds.

Daniel had a busy day and he earned a bit of rest because on Monday, it is back to running the bleachers all the way around CD High Schools field 2 times, running backwards for 100 Meters and running one mile. That will conclude Monday’s Practice. Then we start latters on Tuesday!

Yes, I am very cruel to children

A child named Hyeas Fountain ran in my track club in the early 1990. She competed in USATF just like Daniel and I took no mercy on her in training. This is one reason why she competes around the world today. This is one reason why she has an Olympic Silver Medal.
