The Flash is Pittsburgh Bound

These pictures were taken by Daniel's Trainer, Kathy Sue Derr. I am showing David, Daniel's 10 month old brother what is going on at the track meet. I know, you think that I am nuts because there is no way that a 10 month old is going to know and understand what is going on at a track meet. You are somewhat right. However, children from before they are born to 7 years old learn and pick up knowledge like a sponge. If you show and tell children something over and over again, they will soon learn what you are talking about.

Daniel and David's mother is also in the picture. I did all that I could do to give my children an advantage over other children. At an early age, they were taught to think for themselves with in social limits. That is because they would need that advantage in a world economy. Coach Stephanie Tulloch, MBA started learning before she was born. I would talk to my ex-wife’s stomach, saying words over and over again. I counted from 1 to 10 everyday, several times a day. This is why Stephanie started saying words at 2 months old. She was able to count at 2 years old. By the time she started Kindergarten; she could read and do simple arithmetic. Here is the reason why she is under 30 years old but she is a Resource Manager reporting to a Corporate CEO.

I am telling you this because this is the training that Daniel and David is getting in education as well as sports.

West Chester Meet 1500 Meter Run June 25, 2011

Daniel ran a good race. He ran against two seven year olds. Daniel received second place with a time of 7 Minutes 12.66 Seconds. That was a personal best time. Many people were astonished that Daniel crossed the finish line and went straight to the Bull Pen for the 400 Meter. Most children only run one race then compete in two field events or less. Not Daniel. He competes in three track events.

West Chester Meet June 25, 2011 400 Meters

After Daniel ran the 1500 Meters he got back on the track and ran the 400 Meter race 10 minutes later. He received 6 place with a time of 1 minute 44.66 seconds. This is his fastest time to date. Another personal best.

Getting his Silver Metal in the 1500 Meter

Daniel will have to learn to look for his finishing times and event positions. He will have to learn how to pick up his own metals and ribbons. This is the start of that education.

When things go wrong they go wrong!

Mental Mistakes at the starting line

By the time Daniel started the 800 Meter Run at the West Chester Association Championship meet, he was starting to get mentally tired. He got up at 4:00 AM to prepare for this meet and it was now 1:28 PM. The timing devise on the field was not working well and they held up the running of the 200 Meter for an hour. They kept the Sub-Bantam children (7 years old and under) for the 800 Meter Run on the field in the hot sun until the start of the 800 Meter Run event.

They gave them water and allowed them to drink as much as they wanted. This made their stomachs bloated with water to the point where when they did run, they started cramping.

These are experiences that young athletes must experience before track meets that really matter when they are older. You don't want this to happen in a WPIAL, WPIAA, NCAA, AAU, or USATF Adult Teem Trails Meet in their late teens or early adulthood.

When they check in at the Bull Pen, they are on their own. No coaches or parents can help them. When they step out on that track or in a field event, they better know what to do because if they do not, chances are they will get disqualified. Every event on the track and in the field has their own rules. They better know the rules before they participate. We go over the rules with Daniel as part of his practices every week.

I should have had him take a nap after the 200 Meter Run but I was having my own problems with the heat. No one else thought of it either. Again, this was a learning experience for all of us.

West Chester Meet 800 Meter Run June 25, 2011

Six year old Daniel had to assess the situation by himself. He did not feel like running. Daniel knew that all he had to do was finish the race and he would advance to the Region 2 meet. So he did just that. He came in 3rd. The first place finisher did run a good race but fell out at the end of the race. He had to be carried off the field.

The End of the Day!

He qualified for the Cal U, Pa. USATF Region 2 Championships in all three races. Daniel placing 3rd in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 4 Minutes 46 seconds, second place in the 1500 Meter Run with a time of 7 Minutes 12.66 Seconds, and 6 place in the 400 Meter Run with a time of 1 minute 44.66 seconds.

Daniel had a busy day and he earned a bit of rest because on Monday, it is back to running the bleachers all the way around CD High Schools field 2 times, running backwards for 100 Meters and running one mile. That will conclude Monday’s Practice. Then we start latters on Tuesday!

Yes, I am very cruel to children

A child named Hyeas Fountain ran in my track club in the early 1990. She competed in USATF just like Daniel and I took no mercy on her in training. This is one reason why she competes around the world today. This is one reason why she has an Olympic Silver Medal.

Patty, Business is Business!

I consider myself friends with everyone on City Council and Mayor Linda Thompson. However, business is business.

People who voted for Mayor Reed are asking why did we vote for Linda instead of Steve? The answer; because Steve caused the problem and we would still have the problem if Steve was re-elected. The only difference is we would not know that he caused the problem. We would not be talking about ACT 47. We would be in court facing creditor and selling off City assets. He would blame it on City Council and run candidates against the incumbents.

Linda is not that clever, sly, or sneaky. That is why you know about this problem today. Linda said on day one that she was hitting the ground running but all she did was hit the ground.

You need five City Council Members to file bankruptcy. Mayor Linda Thompson will not cooperate. This I am sure. It is up to Patty Kim to place the City under Court protection. What she has not figure out is that the bond insurance company, Assured Guaranty Municipal Corp. (AGM) planned for this action in 2004 when they said that they would not approve the bond sell unless the Harrisburg Authority had the City and the County co-sign. That way if the Harrisburg Authority and the City could not pay, the County would be stuck with the payments. AGM knew that it was a predatory loan. If they did not know then AGM would not have insisted on two co-signers. Does Patty want to protect the bondholders or the citizens of Harrisburg?

Now if Patty does not get smart fast, Senator Jeff Piccola and the Republican Party will take over the City and Patty and the rest of City government leaders will be just our figure head City government. The County and its Republican leaders don’t want to be stuck with the bill without control of the City. Now Patty, do you want a say in how the City is run or do you want the state and county to do that for you?

I like the idea of having a State District as the Capital. Don’t you?

Patty, it is your call!

Do you want a State Takeover or Bankruptcy?

http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/06/sen_piccola_introduces_bill_th.html

Well Harrisburg, the ball is in your court. You can allow a state takeover of the City of Harrisburg, (or should I say Harrisburg State District) or will you file for bankruptcy while you still can? The choice is yours!

I see a 4 diesel engine freight train coming down the track that is about to run through Harrisburg. City leaders can't see it. Either they are death, dumb, and blind or they are just so much into themselves that they don't care about a takeover of Harrisburg.

The first engine is the Republican Party. They have control of the Pennsylvania State Government. They make state law. The second engine is the Dauphin County Commissioners who want control of the City and have a Republican Party Majority. The third engine is the perception that the City of Harrisburg cannot govern themselves. The media has spent over a year making that case to the people in the area. They even had help from ignorant City politicians, just like they helped with the Harrisburg School Board Takeover years ago. The fourth engine are the creditors who are starting to demand that something be done about protecting their interest from the problems of the City. They have control of the politicians throughout the country.

Recently, the county commissioners said that the Act 47 plan is a good plan. Why? Because it would give Jeff Piccola and the Republican Party time to pass a bill to stop Harrisburg from declaring bankruptcy. If the Senator gets his way, Harrisburg would be a district of the state. The county would be in a position to have a say about the financial status in Harrisburg. They would have a say in increasing taxes in Harrisburg. They can stop a commuter tax for the rest of the county. Both the state officials and the county officials will see to it that the residents of Harrisburg will be made to pay for all the financial disasters created by the Reed Administration in the past 20 years.

Harrisburg resident’s taxes will increase more under a Harrisburg State District Plan than it would under a court run bankruptcy plan. From what I see of a dysfunctional City government, Harrisburg DS is the only plan we have. So City Leaders, continue to do nothing while your residents burn financially!

Daniel qualifies at Wilmington, Delaware

Daniel Tulloch's Kindergarten Picture in 2011

Daniel was just coming off of an illness. He went to the doctors on Friday, the day before the meet to be treated. He felt good enough to run Saturday morning. All we needed for him to do was to qualify for the West Chester Association Meet on June 25, 2011. Stephanie, Daniel’s mother did not go to Delaware. Daniel’s brother was also ill and she stayed home with him. I did not know if Daniel was going to want to run. But when I arrived at his home, Daniel was at the door, ready to jump in the car to go run.

Sub-Bantam 400 Meter Delaware Preliminary Meet

Daniel’s time was 1 minute, 58.47 Seconds.

Many people question me after watching Daniel’s videos because they don’t understand organized Track and Field.

How USATF Works

Most people see Track and Field on TV and think that what they see is the way Track and Field is performed. All they see is the finals of an event. Usually, the people on TV talk about the first place winner then go on to the next event. Nothing is said about the steps to get to that meet. Nothing is said about the trails, semi-finals, or the qualifications for the finals. This gives people the impression that anyone can come to any track meet, say that they want to participate, and then participate in the event of their choice. Nothing is further from the truth.

In order to be involved in organized Track and Field like Hershey Youth, USATF or AAU, athletes must follow the rules of the organization and the rules of the Track Meet. Looking at USATF, Daniel must follow, National Rules, Region Rules, Association Rules, and meet rules. These are rules above the rules of running a race or participating in a field event. Meet rules are sometime given to athletes in writing. At the beginning of the meet, the meet director calls a coach’s meeting to go over meet rules. For example, when Daniel ran at Bethel Park, Pa., they told us that any athlete caught outside the meet area and in Bethel Park High School will be disqualified from the meet. That is a meet rule.

Qualifications

USATF as well as other organizations runs males and females within age groups. Hershey Youth starts at age 9. USATF and AAU start earlier. All limit what events an athlete can participate in according to age group. All three organizations have a qualifying meet. This is the meet that allows an athlete to get into the organizations system. Daniel started in an age group called Sub-Bantam (7 and below) in the USATF Outdoor Track Program. He ran in the Delaware Preliminary meet getting first through six place in no more than three events that is set aside for children age 7 or less. He could run in the Philadelphia Preliminary or the North East Preliminary Meets. He is now qualified to move up to the Mid-Atlantic Association Meet on June 25, 2011.

Daniel can only run in the 400 Meter, 800 Meter, and 1500 Meter Run in the Mid-Atlantic Association Meet because this is what he qualified for in the Preliminary. He will run against other Sub-Bantam boys that qualified in the Philadelphia Preliminary and the North East Preliminary Meets. Children who place first through six will go on to run in the USATF Region 2 Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships at California University PA., from July 7 thru July 10, 2011. The children who qualify in the Mid-Atlantic Association, the Three Rivers Association, New Jersey Association, and the Niagara Association will participate. This is as far as Sub-Bantam children will go except for children that will be age 7 by December 31, 2011.

The top 5 individuals in individual events and the top 2 in combined events qualify to advance to the USATF National Junior Olympics. Third place in combined events must meet the Junior Olympic Standard.

The 2011 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships will be held in Wichita, Kansas. Children from Sixteen Regions who qualified to be at this meet will participate. Below is a link to the Nationals. Here you will find information about each Region.
