Daniel Tulloch in his new St. Luke's Spirit Track Club Uniform
Daniel participated in the Suburban Development League, Lower Merion meet
#3 on May 18, 2013. This meet was near Villanova University in Philadelphia. The week before, we were half way to Philadelphia when we
got a call on the turnpike saying that the Lower Merion meet #2 was canceled due
to a thunderstorm threat. So the meet
officials changed the events for meet #3.
They did not have the 1500 Meter event that Daniel usually runs.
Daniel’s new Coach Andrew Lofton
of the St. Luke’s Spirit Track Club went to the meet officials and asked if
Daniel could run the 3200 Meter run (2 Mile Run) at this meet. Because of
Daniel’s national reputation in intermediate running, 8 year old Daniel was permitted
to run as an 11 to12 year old. Before the race, the coach told me that Daniel
should do well in this race. I had my reservations.
Daniel positioning himself as pace maker of the race.
These older children had more years
experience in running a 2 mile race in a track meet. Daniel has a lot of experience
running 5k cases but they are not on a track. When the race started, Daniel got
off the line quickly and moved into second place. At the end of the first of
eight laps, he was in the lead and kept the pace of the race up until the last
80 meters (300 meters if you count the girls). Daniel finished among the boys
in second place. They gave Daniel a Silver Metal. Counting the two girls that beat
him, Daniel finished overall in fourth place.
Daniel in a battle for the lead against 2 twelve year old girls.
The reason why my jaw dropped was because
Daniel ran the 2 mile race in 12 minutes, 55.75 seconds. That is 6 minutes, 28
second per mile. This means that Daniel ran at a speed of 9.6 mile per hour. He lapped half of the older runners running this race. Watch the last lap of the race and see this
exciting finish.
First place was Hassman, Chloe (Women born 2002, 11 years old)of the Dashers track club.
Second was Goldstein, Isabelle (Women born 2001, 12 years old) of the Ambler track club.
Third was Coleman, Philip (Men born 2004, 9 years old) of the Ambler track club.

Room for improvement
Daniel’s races showed that he needs speed
training and long jump training. This is what we will work on this summer. In later years, Daniel will be moving out of the 800 Meter and into 3200 Meter Run. He will also learn how to hurdle and participate in hurdling events by age 11.
A unanimous Irish-Seminal Native American donor from Georgia gave the Tulloch family a $3,000 commercial Treadmill capable of running up to 16 miles per hour. This will help with Daniel's speed training. The treadmill that he uses now only goes up to 10 miles per hour. As you can see, he runs races at 9.6 mile per hour now. If he out grows 16 mile per hour treadmills, we will stop training him and send him to the Olympic Trials.
Daniel's brother David will continue to use the 10 mile an per hour treadmill until he out grow it.
