Daniel's Well Wishers
Many of Daniel's well wishers sent their heart warm wishes of luck before the race and congratulations after the race. One such person sending the Flash words of luck on Face Book was 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist Hyleas Fountain. I coached Hyleas and prepared her for her first USATF National Championships, 20 year ago.
Opening Ceremonies
The Opening Ceremonies, theme was ‘A Taste of New Mexico’, held at the Albuquerque Convention Center on Friday, December 7, 2012. Athletes arrived by 4:15 p.m. so they could be staged to march into the venue, by Region, beginning at 4:45pm. Parents and spectators were treated to a special pre-show entertainment from 4:30 - 4:45pm. They were also given entertainment that included music and dance representing the state's unique Indigenous and Mexican-American cultures. Governor Susana Martinez of New Mexico spoke at the event along with the Mayor of Albuquerque Richard J. Berry. This was a "Big Deal" as the leaders of New Mexico told the over 5,000 people in the convention hall. The massive police protection at the event on December 8th showed how much New Mexico cared about hosting this national event.
